About Girls' LEAP

Girls LEAP 2009 Anual Report

Girls' LEAP (Lifetime Empowerment & Awareness Program) trains at-risk girls aged 8-18 in verbal and physical safety skills and self-awareness. LEAP helps girls develop a diverse set of responses to violence, beyond the extremes of passivity and escalation.

LEAP's physical skills techniques maximize girls' options and help girls to make safe decisions in spite of fear. The self-reflective skills strengthen girls' ability to say "no" in difficult situations, to create safe and constructive boundaries, and to identify and trust their own feelings.

Our programming is designed to:
  1. Increase violence prevention skills for girls in Greater Boston neighborhoods with high rates of violence.
  2. Increase support offered by local youth-serving agencies for at-risk girls around issues of violence.
  3. Foster public commitment to girl-focused responses to violence.
We do this through our Standard Programs (20 hours of intensive violence prevention and empowerment training), Teen Mentor program (helping teens develop leadership skills) and Introductory Workshops (2-4 hour mini-programs designed to raise awareness).

Girls’ LEAP also regularly conducts “Speak-Out” events with our Teen Mentors, demonstrations, and participates in community events. For more information about our programs or to schedule a demonstration, please contact Tracey@girlsleap.org.
