Senator Liz Miranda

Massachusetts State Senator

“If you can help change the world, do it. You can change people’s lives."

For Senator Miranda, the government is personal. She is a community organizer, former youth worker, and entrepreneur who was propelled to run for office after gun violence took the life of her brother. Senator Miranda fights for families across Massachusetts.

Her legislative accomplishments include the 2021 police reform omnibus bill, for which she was the lead author, and legislation to protect the life and health of environmental justice communities, improve maternal health outcomes of Black women and birthing people, extend postpartum health insurance coverage, end solitary confinement in state prisons, and ensure vaccine equity. The daughter of West African immigrants, Senator Miranda has fought for the Safe Communities Act and the Work and Family Mobility Act.

Senator Miranda has been widely celebrated for her leadership. She was inducted into the Academy of Women Achievers of YW Boston in 2021. She was recognized as Progressive Legislator of the Year Award by Progressive Massachusetts; Woman of the Year by Emerge; and Best Politician 2021 by Boston Magazine.

Miranda graduated from the John D O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science and Wellesley College.

We are grateful for all Senator Miranda has done for our community. She shows us how to act with courage, use our voices to advocate for others and lead transformational change.
